La Costa

The La Costa area of Carlsbad is one of the better-known residential areas along the North San Diego County coast. A quick commute to downtown San Diego and only two hours from Los Angeles, La Costa is a wonderful community in which to raise a family. There is an abundance of walkable areas, and the neighborhood is within close proximity to many beaches and surfing spots. There are also many award-winning schools in the area. La Costa is a popular tourist destination in the summers and a notable home for many businesses in the golf industry.

The area began to develop around 1965 when several thousand acres of land were purchased. A golf course was constructed, homes were built, and the Rancho La Costa Inn was created for visitors. The Inn was later called the La Costa Resort and Spa, thus giving the surrounding area its name, and in 2014, it was acquired by Omni Hotels and renamed the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa. Formerly a separate town, La Costa was annexed by Carlsbad in 1972, but many still refer to it by its original name.
