If you’re looking for Encinitas beach homes or Encinitas luxury homes, you probably already know why the area appeals to so many who love spending time outdoors. The weather is enjoyable year-round, and there’s also plenty to do regardless of your preferences or interests. This article will give you ten ideas for things you can do outside in the Encinitas area. We think there’s something here for everyone to love, whether you’re an Encinitas local or just planning a visit to the area.
1. Moonlight State Beach

Moonlight State Beach is great for swimming, surfing, and fishing. Guests will find volleyball and tennis courts onsite, along with a snack bar and recreational equipment available for rental. The only two downsides are that dogs aren’t allowed, and Moonlight Beach is one of the few beaches in the state that doesn’t accept the California Annual Use Day Pass. The beach is open from dawn to sunset and is a favorite among owners of Encinitas beach homes.
2. Swami’s Beach
Swami’s Beach is an excellent spot for surfing (whether you want to participate or watch others ride the waves). There are also fantastic shaded areas that make a splendid spot for a picnic lunch. A long stairway separates the parking lot from the beach, and some tide pools can be found just north of the stairs during low tide times. Walking north along the coast, you’ll reach the Boneyards, featuring some of Encinitas’ steepest bluffs, and further north on Highway 101 are several renowned cafes and restaurants. Amenities on-site include picnic tables, BBQs, grassy parks, and beaches. Dogs are not allowed at this beach; however, parking is free.
3. Cardiff State Beach
Cardiff State Beach is a beautiful sloping seaside destination with warm water, making it a fantastic spot for swimming, surfing, or simply relaxing on the beach. Plus, if you’re wondering what beach in the area is a good spot to bring your furry friend, Cardiff State Beach allows dogs, as long as they remain on a leash and within six feet of their owners. Cardiff State Beach is also designed to be accessible for everyone - beach wheelchairs are available for patron use, and they are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Also, a Mobi Mat is placed at Lifeguard Tower 15 during the summer months to provide a more accessible surface to access the mean high tide line. Gates at Cardiff State Beach open at 7 am and close at sunset.
4. Encinitas Ranch Golf Course
Want to get out and swing the sticks? Encinitas Ranch offers a pristine 18-hole championship course that offers views of the ocean from every hole. Designed by Cary Bickler, the five sets of tees offer an appropriate level of challenge for all players on this 6,587-yard course. Because of the beautiful coastal setting, this is one of the few courses in the country that never experiences frost delays. Don’t get too cocky after the front nine - it’s definitely more forgiving for errant tee shots than the more challenging back nine. Also, owners of Encinitas luxury homes rave about the Ranch Grill restaurant, both for the full bar and the delicious cafe-style meals.
5. Encinitas Surf School
Encinitas is known as a distinguished place for surfers. If you’ve never ridden the waves before and wonder where to start, consider visiting Encinitas Surf School. You’ll be taught basic surfing skills from the highest quality surf instructors in the San Diego area while having an authentic Encinitas surf experience. Private lessons are available along with group classes, and you can also purchase gift cards to share with friends and family.
6. Go for a hike
We don’t have a specific company to point you towards here. Still, there are several trail options in the Encinitas area to enjoy hikes of all different difficulty levels. Regardless of which one you choose, we think you’ll love the spectacular views and the natural beauty you’ll experience along the way. With its wonderful climate, the area is perfect for owners of Encinitas luxury homes who love the exhilaration of a good hike.
7. RIDE Cyclery
Cyclists of all skill levels will love RIDE Cyclery. One of the best ways to experience Encinitas is on two wheels, and RIDE Cyclery makes those opportunities possible with their road bike and e-bike rentals. They also offer servicing and repairs for all types of bicycles to get you back on the road as soon as possible. E-bike rentals are available in four, eight, and 24-hour increments, and bikes should be picked up between 9:30 am and 2:00 pm. Reservations can be made up to one day in advance. You can find more information about renting road bikes on the rental page on their website.
8. Happy E-bikes Rentals and Tours

Happy E-bikes is another excellent option for renting an e-bike to explore the area. They rent the same top-quality e-bikes that they also offer for sale, and each bike is made to provide top-level comfort, style, and functionality. There are several different sizes available, but each includes five levels of pedal assist and throttle to help propel you forward. No matter which bike you choose, you’ll be able to travel leisurely for miles up and down the Encinitas coastline.
